Book Organization
Due to the vast span of reading levels of the student population at Gilles-Sweet, our collection is divided between Fiction and NonFiction with sub-categories depending upon reading level range. Although we have students in the lower elementary who can read at higher levels, the content is not always age-appropriate. Below is approximate ranges in which our books are divided.
.1 – 1.9 “Yellow Dot” Fiction books
.1 – 2.9 “Orange Dot” Non-Fiction books
2.0 – 3.4 “F” juvenile Fiction books are at Reading Levels between
3.5 and up “J” juvenile Fiction books are at Reading Levels between
3.0 and up Juvenile Non-Fiction books have Reading Levels with the largest range
We have a few magazine titles that we have reserved for 4th & 5th grades, due to readability and higher-level content. These magazines have a fluorescent orange dot on the front cover and in the barcode area.
